Man's Flyers Seek Prayer for Killeen

For many Friday represents the worst of times in Killeen, but a local Christian bookstore manager hopes positive results can come from last years tragic losss.

Craig Gandy, Manager of the Family Bookstores outlet in Killeen Mall has spent the last few weeks sending flyers to the Zondervan's Co.'s 128 stores throughout the nation, and several churches all over the world.

The flyer, Gandy said, requests people to pray on Friday for the continued healing of the Killeen area. The flyer reads in part, "Prayer warriors wanted for national day of prayer for healing in Killeen, Texas ... Pain and fear can be healed through the power of prayer."

In addition to the 128 retail Christian bookstores, Gandy and JCI Productions, a Killeen-based production company, contacted churches in military communities all over the world and sent more than 300 flyers to Christian businesses.

"The response has been very good," Gandy said. "People have been excited."

Gandy moved to Killeen last year, two days before the Oct. 16 shooting. Following the shooting, "I saw the fears of my wife walking to the mailbox and the fears of my children going to school and the pain of people in the store," he said. "At the time the Lord placed on my heart that out of this horror, good things would occur," Gandy said. "To heal broken bodies is easy, but healing internal parts is hard, they have to come to the surface."

The local store manager and JCI Productions have also scheduled a concert Friday night and a praise and worship service Saturday.

Gandy, who has children in the Killeen schools, said, "Many students and children were affected last year, and we wanted to do something positive on that day." Friday's concert runs from 7 to 11 p.m. at Bethel Temple at 3102 S. Fort Hood Road in Killeen. Headlining will be Dedication Crew, a Christian rap band from Austin. Also, Red Ink, Millennial Reign and 20/20, all from Houston, will play.

On Saturday, a "Cross Over to Victory Sing Fest" will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Killeen Amphitheater on Business Highway 190 across from AppleTree. The event will include singing and testimonies.

The concert and sing fest are free and open to the public. A love offering will be taken at the concert. "We just want the community to come and have fun together," Gandy said.
